Head pimples are common skin problem found among newborn babies and some adults. Treating this kind of pimples is different from treating typical pimples found on other parts of the body because head pimples are not technically the same as the pimples found on the face, neck, chest, back or nose pimples. Typical pimples are result of an imbalance in oil reproduction of the sebaceous glands in the skin. As for head pimples, they are related to hair follicles themselves. What happens with the head pimples is that the oil glands produce oil surrounding the hair follicle. And when this happens, sometimes an inflammation occurs on people’s heads.
Newborn babies sometimes develop small red bumps on their head a few days after their birth. Sometimes, their head pimples are result of exposure to their mother’s hormones during the birthing process. To heal head pimples among babies, keeping the area dry for a few days will allow the head pimples to clear up and disappear on their own. Cradle cap may also be a part of an overall skin issue that may be addressed by rubbing baby oil onto the head. Then, comb the hair using a small comb. This step will loosen the yellowish-brown “cap” attached to the skin. Sometimes, head pimples are part of the cradle cap but should not cause an alarm because they will disappear after a few days.
As to what exactly causes head pimples, there are no specific reasons. Sometimes infections like mites, yeast, and bacteria contribute to the development of head pimples. This is because the hair provides a good dark place for micro-organisms to propagate.
Yeast or candida infection, for example, can spread anywhere on the body. Sometimes yeast can infect the crown and cause small red rash to develop. Sometimes, these rashes still stubbornly stay even after being treated with lots of lotions and shampoos.
So to effectively get rid of head pimples, it is best to consult a doctor. The doctor may prescribe an oral and topical medication to clear away the head pimples brought about by yeast infection. Micro-organisms like mites may also cause irritation and infection that can lead to appearance of head pimples. It’s a good thing that a lot of medicated shampoos are available on the market that will surely match your need.
For some, head pimples may be a result of bacteria such as staff. Staff infection is one that needs antibiotics and steroid to clearly make them disappear.
To prevent head pimples, it is encourage to always make sure that you hair is clean. There are lots of available shampoos and conditioners that may prove beneficial to your head pimples.
Products that contain salicylic acid are good example. Products that have benzoyl peroxide may be used too, but make sure you have thought about using it carefully as benzoyl peroxide can affect the color of the hair and may potentially cause damage on your hair. Or at worst, it may make a person go bald. That is why before using products to treat your head pimples, make sure you know what will it do exactly to your head pimples and know the side effects that may occur with the use of the products.
